Unlike many of their contemporaries - such as Jaime Partag\u00e1s, Jos\u00e9 Gener or Ram\u00f3n Allones - they were entrepreneurs with foresight and an impeccable reputation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Alonso Men\u00e9ndez came from a wealthy Spanish family that traded in oil, rum and pharmaceutical products. Thanks to his experience in the tobacco business in New York and Florida, he knew the industry inside out. They knew that access to experienced torcedores and the right facilities was crucial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The building had already been known as a cigar factory since 1927 and soon became the birthplace of the brand <strong>Montecristo<\/strong>. The first says that the readers of the factory of Alexandre Dumas\u2019 novel <em>The Count of Montecristo<\/em> were so enthusiastic that they decided in favour of this name. Even before the official registration, cigars existed that were presumably still nameless, but were soon given the name <strong>Montecristo<\/strong> wore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The second version tells of a trip by the Men\u00e9ndez family to the Basque Country. With a view from Mount Altube and a drink called <em>L\u00e1crima Christi<\/em> Alonso Men\u00e9ndez shouted enthusiastically: \u201eL\u00e1crima Christi!\u201c - the echo replied: \u201eMontecristo!\u201c. With the financial support of the <strong>Dunhill<\/strong> the brand became internationally recognised. In 1937, Men\u00e9ndez and Garcia took over the British company <strong>Frankau S.A.<\/strong> the licence to manufacture the brand <strong>H.Upmann<\/strong> - a partnership that will shape the further course of the <strong>Montecristo history<\/strong> decisively shaped the company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From now on, the cigars of both brands were initially sold in the <strong>Calle Virtudes No.609<\/strong> but soon the production facility was too small. As early as 1944, the company moved to the <strong>Calle Amistad No.407<\/strong>, right next to the famous <strong>Partag\u00e1s Manufactory<\/strong> and the Capitol. But the <strong>Montecristo history<\/strong> continued to develop. From 1969, inspired by the Cohiba Lanceros, new formats were added: <strong>Especial No.1 to No.3<\/strong>.
